ArcelorMittal Liberia Concludes Information Sharing At Dolokelen Gboveh High School In Bong

(Gbarnga, Bong County) – Arcelor Mittal-Liberia in collaboration with Africa Development Management Associates (ADMA), has concluded a one-day information-sharing initiative with senior students and administrators of the government-run Dolokelen Gboveh High School in Gbarnga, Bong County.

The collaboration aimed to conduct a public information awareness campaign and support the school’s senior class project. 

Located in Gbarnga, Bong County, the school’s premises witnessed an informative session facilitated by Wremongar Joe, Communications Coordinator, Africa Development Management Associates lasting for an hour, shedding light on ArcelorMittal’s operations in Liberia.

With more than 390 students, teachers, and administrators, the session focused on ArcelorMittal’s Phase 2 Expansion and the benefits of the company’s 3rd Mineral Development Agreement (MDA).

During the event, ADMA’s Communications Coordinator expounded on AML’s social development programs in the counties impacted by its operations.

 Mr. Joe informed the students about various assistance provided by the company to the people of Bong, such as the pavement of the road from Ganta to Yekepa, and engaged in a dynamic question-and-answer session to resolve some concerns about AML’s work in Liberia.

Thursday, January 25, 2024, the event also saw the distribution of branded T-shirts and informative stickers to the students of Gboveh in the County.

On behalf of ArcelorMittal Liberia, ADMA also extended financial support to the senior class project, contributing to the project cost while at the same time emphasizing ArcelorMittal-Liberia’s commitment to long-term investment in Liberia.

The team expressed the company’s ongoing dedication to providing opportunities for the future generation of Liberians in its host communities, supporting various social, infrastructure, health, and education programs.

According to officials, the initiative at Dolokelen Gboveh High School was reportedly designed as a pilot project that targets the top three high schools in the host counties of Nimba, Bong, and Grand Bassa.

Remarking at the ceremony, the Dolokelen Gboveh High School’s Principal, P. Harvey Willie, expressed gratitude for the event, highlighting the positive impact on the student’s knowledge base.

“When we received the call that our school was selected, we were already happy because these initiatives create a conducive space for our students to relax and focus on their exams,” Mr. Willie revealed.

Expressing appreciation for the timely and generous contribution towards the class project, he extended thanks to Arcelor Mittal-Liberia, accompanied by hope for such partnership’s continuity.

He further appreciated AML for providing training opportunities for Liberian youths who are currently benefiting from AML training in Yekepa.

Mr. Willie at the same time lauded AML for providing support to the 12th graders of the benefiting Counties; recounting that, it can be difficult for the senior students to get their project fees and for AML to underwrite the cost through a partnership is indeed sometimes very remarkable which will go down in history; AML contributions to affected Communities.

“These branded shirts provided will also be used for visibility, including the stickers which are truly speaking facts about AML activities and benefits,” the Gboveh Principal added.

Speaking on behalf of Dolokelen Gboveh High School Students Council President, Semon G. Tokpah conveyed heartfelt gratitude to Arcelor Mittal-Liberia for reaching out to the Dolokelen Gboveh High School students.

Student Tokpah expressed relief at the unexpected support, acknowledging the initiative’s significant benefits.

He also thanked the company for the T-shirts and information-sharing stickers, intending to utilize them in their various communities.

He told the Liberian steel giant to help with his Student Council Project which he projected at four hundred United States Dollars (US$400.00) as the estimated cost of the project which was made available by the AML officials.

The Dolokelen Gboveh High School student leader collectively conveyed the student’s appreciation to ArcelorMittal-Liberia and its partner, Africa Development Management Associates (ADMA), for organizing and implementing the event.

 He further lauded ArcelorMittal Liberia and ADMA for providing two hundred and fifty United States Dollars (US$250.00) as an appreciation package to the senior students for attending the ceremony.

Student Tokpah at the same time expressed excitement to ArcelorMittal Liberia for making the funding available for the ‘Student Council Project’, adding, they were extremely constrained not knowing where to get their project fees.

He assured AML that the fund provided will be used for its intended purposes. 

Additionally, most of the students expressed their interest in joining the ArcelorMittal Liberia Training Academy in Yekepa, expressing how they have heard and seen the fruits of such investment in training young Liberians.

Moreover, AML and its partner Africa Development Management Associates are expected to extend similar activity to J. W. Pearson High School in Nimba County and Bassa High School in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
