“Breath is Life” Donates L$25K to Phebe Hospital to Support Oxygen Supply

GBARNGA, BONG COUNTY – A local organization under the canopy of “Breath is Life” has donated twenty-five thousand Liberian dollars (L$ 25,000) to the Phebe Referral Hospital to enhance oxygen supply to the Referral Hospital in Gbarnga, Bong County.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony on behalf of the organization on August 31, 2024, the Founder and Chief Executive Director of Breath is Life, Mr. David B. Gbokay explained that “Breath is Life” was established following his personal experience at the hospital, where his mother faced challenges related to the availability of oxygen during her treatment.

Gbokay said that he was inspired by the support he received and recognized the need for continued contributions to ensure other patients do not face similar difficulties.
He underscored the importance of oxygen, stating that “when your breath is cut off, your life is cut off.”
He further noted that the organization is committed to supporting Phebe Hospital’s oxygen supply, beginning with the initial donation of L$25,000, with plans to make it a monthly contribution.
Receiving the cash on behalf of the Hospital, Dr. Minnie Sankawulo-Ricks, Medical Director of Phebe Referral Hospital, expressed deep gratitude for the support, acknowledging the hospital’s ongoing challenges in securing oxygen for its patients.
Dr. Sankawulo-Ricks explained that while many hospitals charge for oxygen, Phebe provides it free of charge.
She said the donation will assist with refilling some of the oxygen tanks, especially as the hospital currently relies on external oxygen supplies due to the breakdown of its oxygen plant, pointing out that the “donation will benefit patients from various regions, including neighboring counties and even international patients from Guinea and Ivory Coast”.
