Rep. Briggs-Mensah Expresses Disappointment in Hon. Yekeh Kolubah

Bong County Electoral District #6 Representative Moima Briggs-Mensah has expressed serious disappointment over the recent outburst by Montserrado County District #10 Representative, Hon. Yekeh Y. Kolubah over the visit of President-elect Joseph N. Boakai to the victims and families of the Totota gas tanker explosion.
Rep. Kolubah in an interview with journalists, attacked President-elect Joseph Boakai of ‘accepting bribes’ (monies) which he took to identify with the people of Bong County. President-elect Joseph N. Boakai late last year visited the mass grave site for victims of the Totota gas tanker explosion and pledged ten million Liberian Dollars (L$10M) and two hundred 25kg bags of rice to the victims of the Totota gas tanker explosion.
Rep. Kolubah, while speaking to journalists at his district office last week said, “President-elect Joseph Boakai must tell the Liberian people where he took the money from to donate to the Totota gas tanker explosion victims. He told the Liberian people he was living on loan, so where did he get all that money that he carry to Totota”, Hon. Kolubah asked.
Against the backdrop of the Montserrado County District #10 lawmaker outburst, Rep. Briggs-Mensah, speaking to journalists today, January 11, 2024 at her Capitol Building office said, Hon. Kolubah must come out to openly apologize to the people of Bong County for his statement.
Rep. Briggs-Mensah, “We have lost about eighty (80) persons from the tanker explosion and also to the various hospitals, so we are so sad and regret the incident. I have come to express my disappointment and dissatisfaction in my colleague Hon. Yekeh Kolubah for taking our situation to be business as usual by making comments that will bring my people sadness. I have given him (Rep. Kolubah) more time to see if he (Hon. Kolubah) will have remorse and regret his action and apologize to the people of Totota,” the Bong lawmaker said.
The Bong lawmaker said the people of Bong County have always received Hon. Kolubah with warmed welcomes whenever he visits the county, but since the incident occurred, “he has not sent any message of support or express sympathy”.
Hon. Briggs-Mensah furthered that Rep. Kolubah used the donation by President-elect Boakai “to gain fame as usual at the expense of the press and also the Liberian people”.
The female lawmaker warned Rep. Kolubah not to use the crisis in Totota as fun, stating that doing so will bring him to public ridicule.
