Several Feared Dead in Fuel Tanker Explosion in Totota, Bong County

A tragic tanker explosion is believed to have killed several people and wounded many others in Totota, Bong County.


The incident occurred yesterday, December 26, 2023 on Mulbah Hill, Totota, Bong County, when a tanker believed to be carrying some nine thousand (9,000) gallons, according to eyewitness, fell off the road while trying to dodge a speeding pick-up that was headed from the opposite direction.
The explosion happened when residents of the area began siphoning petrol from the tanker that had fallen off the road.

The tanker exploded several minutes later after falling off the road with no one on the scene expecting or noticing any sign of fire when suddenly, the explosion erupted and gutted some onlookers who weren’t siphoning patrol.
At least 14 persons are reported dead after a fuel tanker with the inscription “God’s Willing” fell off the road right before the Upper Room Church in Totota, Lower Bong County gutted fire.

The eyewitnesses said some of the community members were not able to escape the fire with few surviving but with severe burns.

The total number of casualties is yet unknown, including those who are badly wounded.

Several victims are currently seeking medications at the Phebe Hospital in Gbarnga, Bong County.

When contacted Bong County Health Officer, Dr. Cynthia Blapooh said they still have a lot of critically ill patients, including children and a pregnant woman, a total of 36 people.

She said medical doctors and nurses in the County are doing everything impossible to save the lives of the fire victims.
