RIVERCESS COUNTY – At least ten persons have been confirmed dead from a tragic mudslide in Rivercess County.
Eyewitness told the Informer Newspaper that more than 15 bodies have been recovered by rescue workers from the gold mine in Chio Town, Rivercess County.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at about 2am according to sources.
Confirming the disaster, Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah told MICAT Press Briefing today that up to ten persons have been pronounced dead.
Minister Piah said:” Search and rescue operations are ongoing to retrieve the unspecified number of persons trapped under the rubble.”
He said the National Disaster Management Agency, the Armed Forces of Liberia, the Liberia National Police, the Red Cross, the Ministries of Health, and Mines and Energy are leading ongoing joint search and rescue operations in the county.
