MONROVIA – Opposition leader Simeon Freeman of the Movement for Progressive Change (MPC) has hit at President Joseph Nyuma Boakai over delay in setting up of his government terming it as huge lack of capacity by the rescue mission.
Speaking to newsmen yesterday, March 6, 2024, Mr. Freeman expressed his disappointment over the delay of the setting up of the government by President Boakai.
He said President Boakai failure to have a complete government after more than 40-days in office clearly shows that the rescue mission do not have the will and capacity to lead Liberia.
“We want to start with the formation of the government still delayed; in our mind that’s quite unfortunate. When Mr. Boakai was elected, he was out of this country for more than three weeks. We though the rescue team should have had a better engagement with the out-going administration in terms of the Transitional Team, to be able to protect government assets. Three weeks was more than enough to form a government that would hit the ground running,” Mr. Freeman said.
The MPC political leader argued that President Boakai interview with VOA during last year’s election in which he (President Boakai) promised 100-days deliverables was a political rhetoric, when, in-fact, after almost 50-days in office, the government is yet to be completely set up.
Mr. Freeman said the MPC as one of Liberia’s recognize and respected political parties, sees it necessary to speak on these national issues and to proffer recommendations where necessary.
The MPC political leader among other things said the crisis brewing at mining concessions coupled with the delay in setting up of the government by President Boakai, shows that the MPC was better suited for the presidency in the 2023 presidential elections over the rescue mission of President Boakai.
“Almost 50-days into your government and the government is not yet form, that shows clear lack of capacity, not only that, you have crisis brewing at our mining concessions, all of this is a clear result of the lack of capacity that we have won that Boakai did not have. He’s too old to govern the country, he does not have the energy neither does he has the capacity; We warned about that, and it has to manifest itself,” Mr. Freeman said.
Mr. Freeman said the MPC believe that the 100-days deliverables by President Boakai was “empty talk”, cautioning Liberians to know people who want to lead.
The MPC political leader alleged that President Boakai had wanted to be president since 1982 to fulfill his childhood dream and not to be president because he had a clear vision for Liberia.
Mr. Freeman furthered that “President Boakai lacks vision and has been a bureaucrat everywhere he has served from his records and he lacks the capacity and energy to lead the trillions problems the country faced; bad roads, poor education, health, fading economy, infliction, all these thing are serious problems and we think we need a serious person with a performance track record from the private sector to lead our country,” the MPC political leader said.
